NILAMBUR: Guiding the youth by giving them the right kind of education and training is the only way to strengthen the country, Union Minister for Panchayati Raj and Sports and Youth Welfare Mani Shankar Aiyar said on Monday. He was inaugurating the valedictory function of the two-day `Yuvasakti Abhiyan on Panchayati Raj,' organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra, here. The programme was held in association with the Union Ministries of Youth Affairs, Sports and Panchayati Raj, and the State Ministries of Local Self-Government and Youth Affairs and Sports. India had the best resources in the world. What it needed was right channelling of its resources. The Yuvasakti Abhiyan would go a long way in mobilising the strength of the youth for the country's development, Mr. Aiyar said. The Yuvasakti Abhiyan is a State-level campaign to mobilise youth organisations for effective functioning of local bodies. Nearly 800 delegates from across the State took part in the campaign. Plans for coordinated and more effective functioning of the Panchayati Raj system were chalked out. State Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports M. Vijayakumar presided. Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan national vice-chairman Kodikkunnil Suresh welcomed the gathering. Yuvasakti Abhiyan State core committee co-chairman Vijaya Lakshmi presented a report. P.V. Abdul Wahab, MP; district panchayat president Arimbra Mohammed, Local Self-Government Principal Secretary S.M. Vijayanand; Sports and Youth Affairs Department director G. Kishore; and Nilambur grama panchayat president Aryadan Shoukath offered felicitations.
