MYSORE: Around 150 villages in Mysore district are facing an acute drinking water scarcity and the situation at Doddakavalande village in Nanjangud taluk is severe. This was announced at a meeting convened by Regional Commissioner Dhananjaya to assess the drinking water situation in the district, here on Monday. Mr. Dhananjaya told the officials to prepare a list of villages that are likely to face a water crisis in the next two months and take steps to ensure supply to them. However, he directed the officials to employ labourers to carry out the work instead of using machines. Deputy Commissioner S. Selva Kumar, who explained the steps taken to tackle the water crisis, said the situation had not reached a stage where water had to be supplied through tankers. All towns were getting water from rivers flowing through the district, and walls had been built across rivers to store water following a decline in water level, he said. Mysore Zilla Panchayat secretary Kempe Gowda told the meeting that steps had been taken to supply water to 150 villages where there was scarcity.
