CHENNAI: Tambaram Municipality has allocated Rs. 20 lakh towards pipeline improvement works to provide uninterrupted water supply during summer months. Municipality Commissioner R. Sekar said water headworks at Villiambakkam near Chengalpattu were provided with a 125 kVa generator to overcome power disturbances. Work on fixing air valves at four points of the pipeline to arrest bursts is nearing completion. Recently, workers carried out repair works near Vandalur on Grand Southern Trunk Road that would enable supply of an additional amount of two lakh litres of water a day, he said. On complaints about the erratic water supply in East Tambaram and Irumbuliyur, Municipality Chairman E. Mani said steps have been taken to improve the water supply. Earlier, the residents of East Tambaram received water once in 10-15 days. Now water is supplied on weekly basis, he said. He recalled that the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board had called for tenders for construction of 13 infiltration wells and sumps of various capacities and pump rooms of various sizes. Laying and linking of feeder main and pumping main would form part of the work to be carried out by TWAD Board. Water supply would be improved at West Tambaram too on completion of the work, Mr.Mani added.
