UDUPI: K. Raghupati Bhat, MLA, said here on Monday that the Udupi district-level "Suvarna Aarogya and Aahara Mela" (Health and Food Mela) will be held at the Board High School from April 18 to 20. Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Bhat said the mela was being jointly organised by the National Rural Health Campaign, the district administration and Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP). People from different parts of Udupi district were expected to participate in the mela. There would be free ECG, ultrasound, X-ray, blood and urine test facilities at the mela. There would be free health check-up by specialists and free spectacles would be provided in deserving cases, he said. The mela and seminar on various issues connected with health will also be held on the occasion. There will be 36 food stalls at the food mela. Arrangements have been made to provide free meals to 5,000 people everyday during the mela. Medicines worth Rs. 2 lakh will be distributed to patients during the mela, according to Mr. Bhat.
Inauguration
Health Minister R. Ashok will inaugurate the health mela, while Hemavathy Heggade of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala will inaugurate the food mela. Medical Education Minister V.S. Acharya will preside over the inaugural function on April 18. Director of SKDRDP Sitaram Shetty, District Health and Family Welfare Officer M.R. Naik, former President of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) Chittaranjandas Hegde and correspondent of Vidyaniketan Group of Educational Institutitions K.P. Acharya, were present.
