NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday announced that her Government would in two or three days issue a notification on the "Minimum Performance Standard" for private power distribution companies that would enable it to penalise the companies for wrong billing and unjustified power cuts. Speaking in the Delhi Assembly on the Lieutenant-Governor's address, Ms. Dikshit said it was true that the discoms had not performed satisfactorily. "We have given them a strict warning that either they should mend their ways or they will have to regret," she declared.
Improvement
However, Ms. Dikshit claimed that in the past five years power distribution had definitely improved. But, she said, there was ample scope for improvement. "Now there is no shortage of power and the cuts are due to the inefficiency of the discoms. We have to put it right and we are doing it." The move to empower the DERC would help in addressing the situation.
