Buy auspicious metal on auspicious day

Akshaya Tritiya is the auspicious day to make new purchases. Indians, who consider gold as an auspicious metal make the Akshaya Tritiya day doubly auspicious by buying gold.

Leading jewellery outlets in the territory have come out with attractive offers to gain the attention of various sections of customers. Tanishq offers 40 per cent discount on 'making' charges of gold jewellery and 5 per cent off on diamond jewellery. They also have opened pre booking counters besides launching 'new for old' scheme for gold jewellery.

"We have exchange offer for old gold jewellery of any quality with equivalent 22 ct gold Tanishq jewellery. We also have pre bookings for gold with 25 per cent advance payment," says Mr Harish Nanwani, owner, Tanishq.

Sri Valli Vilas Gold House will be open from 7 a.m. onwards on the Akshaya Tritiya day falling on April 20. "We are not closing for lunch break on the day" says Mr Shivashankar, owner, Sri Valli Vilas. The 'new for old' scheme being offered for Tamil New Year will extend till April 20 owing to good response from the customers. "We accept old jewels without slashing the rate," says Mr Shivashankar. Sri Valli Vilas is also offering 50 per cent discount on 'making' charges of silver jewellery from April 14 to April 20. The outlet has also launched a chit scheme enabling customers to buy gold after paying money in instalments.

Thanga Maaligai, another big name in jewellery, offers new designs and 24 ct gold coins for Akshaya Tritiya. They too have opened pre booking counters on jewels.

Sri Lakshmi Jewellery has now opened separate sections for various types of jewellery items. "We have shifted heavy weight jewels to first floor to enable people to select jewels at leisure. Pre-booking counters are opened to help customers choose their designs and order it now so that they can collect it on Akshaya Tritiya day," says Mr Naveen Balaji, owner, Sri Lakshmi Jewellery.

Jewel Palace has launched a chit scheme with attractive prizes for those who enrolled in the scheme. Pre booking counters have been opened and the jewellery has also introduced 'new for old' offer for Akshaya Tritiya. "We are giving special gifts for customers who enrol in the chit scheme and also for those who refer people to join the scheme. We have also launched new for old scheme for 916 gold jewels from April 14 to April 20" says Mrs Chitra Devi, owner, Jewel Palace.

Jewellery houses like Muthu Gold House, Vijayalakshmi Nagai Maaligai and Abarana Maaligai have made elaborate arrangements to receive their large sections of dedicated clientele on the auspicious day. Most of the jewellery outlets in the town relay more on quality, quantity and good service to attract customers than extending a series of offers.

When the jewellers create such hype about Akshaya Tritiya, even people feel that they are obliged to buy gold on that day.

"Every year on Akshaya Tritiya, I buy at least a gold coin even if I'm not in a position to buy a jewellery piece. Buying gold on that day brings good luck and helps in accumulation of wealth" says Mrs Balameenakshi, house wife.

She believes that she bought more gold subsequently because she never failed to buy gold on Akshaya Tritiya.

Another section of people engage themselves in helping the underprivileged on the Akshaya Tritiya day.

"I buy gold on Akshaya Tritiya day. I also contribute my mite for some social cause", says Mrs Haripriya, a house wife.
