Encouraging paddy procurement

ERODE: Paddy procurement by the Civil Supplies Corporation is encouraging in Erode district.

Erode basically is an agricultural district and paddy has been raised in Kalingarayan, Thadapalli, Arankkankottai and Lower Bhavani Project ayacut areas. The farmers appealed to the State Government to start as many paddy procurement centres as possible in the district. Following Government order, the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) started 14 procurement centres in the district.

According to the TNCSC officials, they are purchasing paddy at Rs. 650 a quintal for fine variety paddy and Rs. 620 a quintal for coarse variety. Within a month's time, 18,312 tonnes of paddy has been procured. This is stated to be an all-time record. The farmers say because of procurement by TNCSC, they are getting proper payment.
