NEW DELHI: India overcame initial resistance from Malaysia to record a 3-0 triumph in its second Group `C' league match in the World Junior Cup Asia-Oceania under-14 boys' tennis championship at the DLTA Complex here on Tuesday. Sai Kartik chose to test his endurance against Mersuki Mohammed Assri in the first singles as he squandered two match points at 5-2 in the eighth game of the second set. Eventually, Kartik did pull off a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 victory in two hours and 10 minutes. Rohit Bisht raced home for the loss of three games in less than an hour against Pearljit Bhoopindar Singh. In doubles, Kartik and Mohit Mayur combined well to overcome a late hiccup against Assri and Tan Ee Zhou.
The results: Group `A': Japan bt Sri Lanka 3-0. Group `B': China bt Kazakhstan 3-0. Group `C': Korea bt New Zealand 3-0.India bt Malaysia 3-0 (Sai Kartik bt Mersuki Mohd. Assri 7-5, 5-7, 6-2; Rohit Bisht bt Pearljit Bhoopindar Singh 6-2, 6-1; Sai Kartik & Mohit Mayur bt Assri & Tan Ee Zhou 6-2, 6-4). Group `D': Thailand bt Pakistan 3-0. Chinese Taipei bt Singapore 3-0. Group `E': Australia bt Indonesia 3-0.
