Baskar sparkles for Eleven Tigers

Coimbatore: Fine bowling by left-arm spinner P. Baskar (seven for 30) helped Eleven Tigers CC to a 53-run win over Young Star CC and earn a place in the quarterfinal of the CDCA league entry knock-out cricket tournament for the Super Spinning Mills Trophy at the TNAU grounds here on Tuesday.

Cosmo Village `B' CC, Top Eleven CC and Rainbow Jeeva CC were the others to advance into the last-eight stage.

The scores: Third round: At TNAU: Eleven Tigers 132 for nine in 30 overs (M. Shiva 54 not out, Chitraarasan six for 40) bt Young Star CC 79 in 21.3 overs (Anand 42, P. Baskar seven for 30); Cosmo Village `B' 174 in 30 overs (C.R. Dharaniraj 40, Sundaramoorthy four for 60) bt Eleven Bullets CC 80 in 23.5 overs (Arun five for 42, Karupuswamy five for 32).

At Forest: GCC 98 in 29.2 overs (K. Arun Babu four for 33) lost to Top Elevens CC 99 for two in 22.1 overs (M. Balaji 41); Rainbow Jeeva CC 157 in 29.4 overs (Yuvaraj 50, Jesudas six for 61) bt MEC CC 109 in 23.4 overs.

At SNR: Annur SC 183 for nine in 30 overs (Arun Kumar 46) bt Chennai Silks 138 in 27.4 overs (Rajkumar seven for 50); Miracle CC 183 for five in 30 overs (Parkunan 65, Mahalingam four for 37) bt Mohammedi CC 163 in 28 overs.

Chess tournament

An all-India Fide-rated open chess tournament for the LA Group Rolling Trophy organised by the Global Chess Academy will be held at the Jenney Club here from April 27 to May 3.

Blood Reds triumphs

Blood Reds Football Club emerged the champion in the Coimbatore District Football Association `A' division league with 27 points from 11 matches here recently. Venu Football Club, with 26 points, finished the runner-up.

Final standings: `A' division: 1. Blood Reds FC (27 points); 2. Venu FC (26); 3. PSG SC (24); 4. Union FC (21); 5. Asoka FC (16).

Athletics camp

Kovai Athletic Club will conduct an 11-week non-residential coaching camp for students at the VOC Park Corporation Sports Complex, opposite Nehru Stadium, here from April 17 to May 27.
