JAIPUR: Former judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts will deliberate on their role in nation-building at the fifth conference of the Association of Retired Judges in Indore on April 21 and 22. The two-day event will be hosted by the International Law Association. Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan will inaugurate the conference. Former Chief Justices A.M. Ahmadi and R.C. Lahoti, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court A.K. Patnaik will be among those who attending the conference. Association's vice-president and former judge of the Rajasthan High Court, Justice V.S. Dave, said here on Tuesday that the challenges posed by global warming and its impact on water resources would be the focus of discussions at the conference. "It is incumbent upon the State to comply with the judgments of various courts on environment and water-related issues,'' he said. Mr. Justice Dave said the "rich and multi-faceted experience'' of former judges could be utilised fruitfully for healthy development of society. Jaipur-based Centre for Community Economics and Development Consultants' Society and Indore-based Association for Self Help Action are the other sponsors of the conference. A session on "Environmental and water pollution'' will be addressed by Rameshwar Mishra of Bharat Bhavan and on "Media and judiciary'' by former Editor of The Tribune, Hari Jaisingh.
