NEW DELHI: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Tuesday complained to the Election Commission that the authorities in Uttar Pradesh did not allow Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav's helicopter to land at Badaun on April 14, while allowing Rahul Gandhi's helicopter to land at the same venue with full security cover. Mr. Yadav's helicopter landed on a vacant plot and there were no security arrangements, the NDA said. An NDA delegation, comprising JD (U) general secretary and spokesman Shambhu Shrivastava, general secretary Javed Raza and BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar met the full Election Commission here. They alleged that the district administration had discriminated against Mr. Yadav who had been in Parliament for more than 30 years and was the national president of JD (U), while Mr. Gandhi was a first-time MP. "This kind of discriminatory attitude is beyond comprehension," they said in a memorandum submitted to the commission.
Security sought
Seeking security cover for Mr. Yadav, the delegation said JD (U) candidates were pitted against candidates, who allegedly had criminal cases against them. They also demanded special measures by the commission in Gunnaur from where Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav is contesting.
