Vijaya Bank triumphs

Bangalore: Vijaya Bank emerged champion in the KSCA Group II, second division league that concluded here on Tuesday. In the final league match, Vijaya Bank, powered by B.A. Vinay's 146 and S.N. Amit's 110, gained a 79-run first innings lead over Corporation Bank.

Earlier Corporation Bank scored 306 for eight in its first innings and Vijaya Bank replied with 385 for seven in 55 overs. Corporation Bank then scored 102 in its second innings to set a target of 23 for Vijaya Bank. However Corporation Bank conceded the match immediately after its second innings.

The scores: Corporation Bank 306 for eight in 55 overs (Pramod Kamath 87, Murgesh Mugbasth 63, S. Prashanth 49) and 102 in 22.3 overs (K.M. Aiyappa four for 42) lost to Vijaya Bank 385 for seven in 55 overs (B.A. Vinay 146, S.N. Amit 110, Srivatsa Puranik 56, T. Vinay four for 131). Corporation Bank conceded the match.

Srikanth scalps four

Srikanth's four for 12 spell helped Acharya IT defeat BMSCE by 27 runs in a Dr. M.V. Jayaraman Memorial cricket tournament match here on Tuesday.

Acharya IT scored 208 in 26.5 overs and bowled out BMSCE for 181 in 25.4 overs.

The scores: Acharya IT 208 in 26.5 overs (Manju 50, Naveen 47) bt BMSCE 181 in 25.4 overs (Sameer 63, Srikanth four for 12).

MVIT 256 for five in 30 overs (Pramod 67, Arjun 56 not out, Mahendra 53) bt City Engineering College 155 for eight in 30 overs.

IA wins men's title

Indian Airlines lifted the men's team title in the all India Public Sector carrom championship with a 3-0 victory over Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) in the final at the KSBA Hall here on Tuesday.

In the first singles, former World Cup winner, M. Nataraj defeated K. Ramesh Babu 25-18, 25-8 and put IA ahead. Airlines soon took an unassailable 2-0 lead when World champion R.M. Shankara defeated current World Cup holder, Yogesh Pardeshi 25-24, 25-24. The doubles pair, Maria Irudayaraj and E. Magimairaj completed the sweep, defeating the IOCL duo of P. Simon Issac and A. Kannan 23-25, 25-1, 25-13.

LIC of India took the third spot beating ONGC 2-1.

In the open events that got underway, R. Babu of BSNL stunned the top seed R. Shankara in the men's singles at 21-25, 25-20, 25-6.

The results:

Men's team event (final): Indian Airlines bt IOCL 3-0 (M. Nataraj bt Ramesh Babu 25-18, 25-8; R.M. Shankara bt Yogesh Pardeshi 25-24, 25-24; A. Maria Irudayaraj & E. Magimairaj bt P. Simon Issac & A. Kannan 23-25, 25-1, 25-13).

Double for Mithun

Mithun Manjunath bagged a double in the Mehul Sirur Memorial badminton tournament that concluded at the Canara Union Courts here on Tuesday.

The results (finals):

Boys under-10: Singles: Mithun Manjunath bt T. Naveen 21-5, 21-4. Doubles: Mithun & Raghu bt Nirmit Kaushik & S. Vignesh 21-9, 21-15.

Girls under-10: Singles: Mahima Agarwal bt Deepali Karumbaiah 21-17, 21-16.

Throwball tournament
