Lok Satta offices to serve as citizen centres

Special Correspondent

1,000 centres in all mandals planned

  • Proposed centres to be manned by retired persons
  • They will also help implement citizen charters

KURNOOL: Lok Satta coordinator Jayaprakash Narayan on Tuesday said the offices of the party would act as citizen service centres across the State. The party planned to open 1,000 centres at all mandals soon.

Talking to reporters here, Dr. Narayan who was here to take part in the `Jana Rajakiya Yatra', said the centres, proposed to be manned by retired persons, would help implement citizen charters, act as nodal centres of Right to Information services, offer forum for conducting public debates and help unemployment youth in creating awareness about employment opportunities.

Asked why Lok Satta was not fighting with the establishment in solving people's problems, Dr. Narayan said the present set of political entities were caught in the quagmire and could do little in changing the scenario. They had very little to offer to people except the corrupt establishment. On the issue of regional imbalance, he said formation of separate State was not panacea for all ills. "We all witnessed the parents of a dog bite victim in Hyderabad recently running from hospital to hospital for medical aid. Do we need a separate State to change it or system for proper functioning of hospitals and schools?" he asked. On the SEZs, he said they should be located on non-agriculture lands and a portion of benefits should go to the landowner.
