BELGAUM: Deputy Commissioner M.E. Shivalingmurthy has asked the managements of all sugar factories in the district to lift surplus sugarcane for crushing by May 30 this year. The Deputy Commissioner held a meeting with leaders of farmers' organisations following pressure from the growers to find a solution to their sugarcane crop, and representatives of private and cooperative sugar factories here on Monday.
Advise
He advised managements of the factories facing shortage in their registered area to lift sugarcane from areas with surplus production. He also advised the tahsildars and police officials to be vigilant and ensure that the farmers were not harassed or exploited. Also, as per the directions of the Government, the district administration will hold review meetings every Monday. Veerkumar Patil, MLC, Hemant Nimbalkar, Superintendent of Police, and officials of Agriculture Department attended the meeting, according to a release here on Tuesday.
