Malas warn of protests

HYDERABAD: The Mala Mahanadu has threatened to launch a state-wide agitation if the Government announces a decision in favour of categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SCs).

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, its president and MLC J. Prabhakara Rao alleged that the MRPS was bringing pressure on Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to concede their demand for categorisation of SCs.

The Chief Minister should not succumb to the pressure mounted by the MRPS and ensure that the constitutional and democratic rights of Malas were protected, he said.

"The Mala Mahanadu will take steps to forge unity among SC communities," he added.
