Kakinada: Noted poet C. Narayana Reddy felicitated 28 prominent people, who were either founding members or their next of kin, of Rangaraya Medical College at a function here on Monday night to mark the college Founders' Day celebrations. Among those felicitated were Mullapudi Harischandra Prasad, industrialist, P.V.N. Raju, doctor, R.V.M. Ranjit Rao and R.V.M. Ramarathnam Rao, sons of Maharajah of Pithapuram, Mallipudi Sriramasanjiva Rao, former Union Minister, I.V. Rao, Director of Medical Education, Dantu Surya Rao, P.S. Sarma, Pydah Viswanatha Kumar and Lakkaraju Satyanarayana Tikku.
Souvenir released
Dr. Reddy explained the importance of medical profession and the rapid strides made by the college. Dr. I.V. Rao, who released the souvenir brought out by the college to mark its golden jubilee celebrations, said that Government General Hospital attached to the college was poised for a bright future with the introduction of several super specialties. College principal Raj Kumar said that the college during the last five decades had produced 5,000 medical graduates and 2,000 postgraduates in various specialties. He said that the college auditorium would be given a facelift. MLA Mutha Gopalakrishna recalled how the college was launched in 1958 with the efforts of Col. D.S. Raju and M.V. Krishna Rao with the generous donations of Mr. Harischandraprasad and Pydah Satyanarayana Murthy and other philanthropists. M. Surya Kumari, GGH superintendent, and others spoke.
