MTNL withdraws payment scheme

NEW DELHI: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited has decided to withdraw its scheme of receiving payments of telephone bills through credit cards at Indian Oil Corporation petrol pump outlets in the Capital.

The facility will end on April 30.

Chinese delegation in the Capital

NEW DELHI: A Chinese delegation led by the Deputy Mayor of Jinan City, Wang Yicai, visited the Indian Mountaineering Foundation complex here on Tuesday. The delegation included Deputy Secretary-General of Jinan People's Government Du Ping, Director-General of Jinan Sports Bureau Chu Wei, and Deputy Director-General of Jinan Financial Bureau Wang Yi.

They showed a keen interest in IMF's mission of popularising adventure sports among Indian youth. IMF honorary secretary P.C.S. Rautela offered his organisation's cooperation to the youth of Jinan and proposed joint expeditions.

Power situation eases

New Delhi: The power situation in Delhi eased a little on Tuesday in the wake of a warning to discoms from Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to get their acts together.

The discoms are drawing the full 110 MW of electricity available from Himachal Pradesh, which they were not doing earlier due to the high rates.

The city has also not been selling the stipulated 200 MW power to Mumbai after the first two or three days after receiving widespread criticism.

New president of students' union

NEW DELHI: Abhishek Bansal has been elected president of the Maulana Azad Medical College Students' Union.

The other new office-bearers are Swarnika Srivastava (vice-president), Varun Jain (general secretary) and Rajat Malhotra (cultural secretary).

Workshop on water harvesting

NEW DELHI: Jal Biradari in association with Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti is launching a "Jal Satyagraha: 2007" at Tees January Marg here this Wednesday.

As part of "Jal Satyagraha", a workshop on traditional water harvesting will be organised. Issues and problems relating to the fast depleting water resources and its conservation would be dealt with at the workshop.

Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz, Union Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Pratap Singh and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will interact with participants from across the country.
