Delhi court sentences RTA staff for graft
NEW DELHI:
A Delhi court on Tuesday sentenced a 35-year-old-man to three years' rigorous imprisonment for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant in providing registration of newly vehicles.
Special Judge S K Kaushik held Vishwanath Paul, working in the Transport Authority Department, Anand Vihar in Delhi, guilty of taking the bribe of Rs 5,000 from a Delhi-based businessman R K Sethi and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
However, the court acquitted Paul's associate R Vijayan and Sant Ram -- working as the then Motor Licensing Officer (MLO) and Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI), in the Anand Vihar Transport Authority Deapartment, due to lack of evidence.
Vishwanath Paul was convicted under sections the Prevention of Corruption C Act, 1988. - PTI
