HYDERABAD: Hyderabad district revenue authorities on Tuesday took over `surplus land' to an extent of 6, 824.23 sq. metres from the possession of former Telugu Desam Party legislator C. Krishna Yadav at Amberpet here in the city.

A water service station and open place on the premises of IBP petrol pump near Amberpet No. 6 junction, being operated by the former MLA, was taken over by the authorities, besides taking over a concrete structure and a shopping complex adjacent to the petrol pump.

The concrete structure and shopping complex belong to one Syed Azam, said Amberpet Tahsildar Nazar Abbaz.

Acting as per the orders issued by Special Officer and Competent Authority under Urban Land Ceiling (ULC), the revenue authorities demolished the compound wall along the petrol pump and are erecting a fence marking the possession of the surplus land.

"It was declared as surplus land last year under ULCA and a board was also erected saying that the land belongs to the Government of Andhra Pradesh and now we are taking it into our possession," said Hyderabad Revenue Divisional Officer Hanmanth Reddy.

He said there was a proposal to construct Gouthu Latchanna auditorium on the surplus land.

However, Mr. Krishna Yadav maintained that he purchased the land in 1984. "Authorities have not given me prior notice with regard to the ceiling," he alleged.
