COIMBATORE: Ten disabled people found their match at the marriage meet, `swayamvaram' organised by the Nellai Trust for the Physically Disabled here recently. The Trust organises such meets regularly in various parts of the State in order to assist people with disabilities in finding a suitable life partner. More than 200 people with disabilities and their parents attended the programme held in Coimbatore. "This is the third time we are having such a meet in this city," said T.P. Ramesh, Founder of the Trust. People from Erode, Namakkal, Dindigul, Thirunelveli and the Nilgiris districts attended the programme. "Though only ten marriages have been fixed, a lot of people have found alliances that match their requirements," he added. According to Mr. Ramesh, these swayamvaras provide an opportunity for men and women with disabilities to meet and talk. Parents too can consider suitable alliances for their children. All the weddings that have been fixed would be sponsored by Vijayalakshmi Marketing and Lucky Group of Companies, both firms based at Coimbatore, Mr. Ramesh said. The next swayamvaram would be held next month. Some people with disabilities have been engaged to those without disabilities through this programme, he added. The Trust, based at Thisayinvilai in Thirunelveli district, worked for the welfare of disabled people and mobilised funds for them. It also engaged in enabling sponsorships for educational purposes for children with disabilities. Mr.Ramesh can be contacted at 98417-09283.
