NEW DELHI: After withstanding frequent power cuts over the past few days, the Capital finally got some relief. The load shedding in the city on Monday was a mere 0.8 per cent of the total energy supplied. The Delhi Government's Power Department said the city met the 3,311 MW of load without major hiccups and the total shedding amounted to 539 MW. On Tuesday, the peak load on the system recorded was 3,368 MW without any load shedding or under-frequency. However, the Power Department cautioned that rotational load shedding could be carried out in some parts of the city during the evening hours. With several power plants continuing to supply less than their full capacity, Delhi was overdrawing more than 200 MW from the Northern Grid. The city's own generation was 1,024 MW, up from Monday's 990 MW. There was a reduction of 210 MW from the Badarpur Power Plant, 30 MW from the Gas Turbine Plant, 42 MW from the Indraprastha Power Plant, 34 MW from Singrauli and 31 from the Rajasthan Atomic Power Plant. While most parts of the city faced power cuts lasting up to an hour, residents of South-West Delhi complained of no power for more than three hours. "Contrary to the general perception, the power situation is far from bad. There is adequate supply of electricity and the load shedding has been minimal. We are now looking forward to the setting up of new power plants in the city," said Principal Secretary (Power) Rakesh Mehta. He said even as there was a national shortage of about 12 per cent during the peak demand, the Capital had been able to meet its requirements.
