Ludhiana boy rescued in Delhi

NEW DELHI: A young boy who was allegedly kidnapped from his school in Ludhiana on Monday evening was rescued by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police from the Capital on Tuesday.

According to the police, information was received from the Punjab police that a boy had been kidnapped by two persons from Ludhiana. It was also learnt that the boy would be taken by train to Bihar to be passed on to some gang for ransom.

A special team was formed at Old Delhi railway station that scrutinised the schedule of the trains coming from Ludhiana and Ambala towards Delhi and bound for Bihar. The photographs and description of the boy were obtained by e-mail from the Punjab police and circulated among the team members.

The target train was identified as Saryu Yamuna Express. When it halted at Subzi Mandi railway station, the team scanned all the passengers. During the search operation, the police recovered the boy and arrested the alleged kidnapper identified as Fulana who allegedly disclosed that he along with one Malik Pandit had hatched the plan to kidnap the boy for ransom.

Shops burgled; guard missing

NEW DELHI: Nearly a lakh of rupees in cash was stolen from about two-dozen shops at Kashmere Gate here on Monday night.

According to the police, security guard Bahadur broke open the locks of auto spare-parts shops at Chabiganj on Monday night and made off with the cash. The accused, a native of Nepal, was hired only a month ago and had not been verified by the police. A hunt has been launched for him.

Minor assaulted

NEW DELHI: A five-year-old girl was allegedly criminally assaulted at Jahangirpuri here on Monday.

According to the police, the girl went missing on Monday night while she was playing outside her house. When her parents could not find her, they lodged a complaint with the police. On Tuesday morning, she was found injured near a municipal school in B-Block. A medical examination confirmed the criminal assault.

A case has been registered, but no arrests have been made so far.

49 properties sealed

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Tuesday sealed 49 properties in residential areas of the Capital, taking to 543 the grand total of illegal commercial premises sealed since resumption of the drive on March 28.

A total of 19 premises, the highest for the day, were sealed between Old M. B. Road and Lado Sarai in South Zone. The Civil Lines Zone was not too far behind with as many as 16 premises sealed on Internal Road M-Block Shastri Nagar .

In Shahdara (South) Zone, six properties were sealed in Krishna Nagar.

On L.P. Road in Mongolpuri in Najafgarh Zone, three units were sealed.

Two premises each were sealed in Rohini and Nandnagri in Shahdara (North) Zone.

In Central Zone, only one property was sealed on Mathura Road.
