`Curiosity drove me to make hoax bomb call'

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Curiosity to see the reaction of police and media to a false alarm -- that was what prompted a daily-wage earner Dhanala alias Kanaka Raj to make a call saying a bomb was planted in Rajkot Express three days ago, police said on Tuesday. "I had no intention to scare anyone but wanted to see how the police would check the place and the media covers the incident, he said, when the police presented him before mediapersons. Hailing from Godavarikhani of Karimnagar, the labourer tested positive for AIDS and used to frequently visit the city to purchase homeopathy medicine. On April 14, he came to the city and boarded Bhagyanagar at Secunderabad railway station to reach his place after purchasing the medicines. While sitting in the train, the thought of raising a false alarm struck him. He immediately rang up the police main control room from his mobile phone.

He watched the police search the station premises with the help of bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs. Since the landline telephone of the control room had caller identification instrument, the staff noted down Dhanala's mobile number. It was in the name of Dhanala's elder brother G. Srinivas. When police knocked on the doors of his house, Srinivas revealed that the phone was used by his brother, which led to Dhanala's arrest.
