This Day That Age
Acharya Vinoba Bhave, the Bhoodan leader, entered Kerala on the morning of April 18 on a 54-day tour of the State. The Acharya, who was accompanied on the last lap of his Tamil Nad tour by the Congress President, Mr. U.N. Dhebar, and Madras Ministers, Mr. M. Bhaktavatsalam and Mr. C. Subramaniam, was received at the State border by the Governor, Mr. B. Ramakrishna Rao, and the Chief Minister, Mr. E.M. Sankaran Nambudiripad. Both the Governor and the Chief Minister walked along with Acharya Bhave to his camp about a mile away. Addressing a meeting immediately on arrival at the camp, Acharya Bhave said in a vast country like India there might be people subscribing to several ideologies. But he was sure all of them agreed that the right of ownership on land should be ended in India. He did not think any political party would differ on this issue. It was, therefore, the duty of every one of them to make a joint endeavour to see that this goal was achieved. Next month the Sarvodaya Sammelan was going to be held at Kaladi. If the people of Kerala made an earnest attempt they would be able to declare at the conference that they had cast off the ownership right on land.
