ERODE: "Animals in Thalawady, Thalamalai and Thimbam forest areas in Sathyamangalam forest division are not facing water shortage," said the District Forest Officer, Sathyamangalam, S. Ramasubramanian, on Wednesday. Talking to The Hindu , he said for the past three or four days the entire Sathyamangalam forest area had experienced heavy rainfall. Rainwater was stored in the special tanks constructed by the Forest Department. He said 22 water tanks were constructed in the Sathyamangalam forest division with fund allotted by the District Collector. All the tanks had enough water for animals, especially elephants.
Borewells
The department had sunk borewells at 22 places. Water was pumped to the tanks in mornings and evenings and the tanks were cleaned once in three days, he added. He said the staff was maintaining round-the-clock vigil to prevent poaching of animals and smuggling of forest produce.
