Will enhance their driving skills and equip them with the know-how to deal with exigencies

NEW DELHI: Metro train operators will be put through a training module using simulators to enhance their driving skills, equip them with the know-how to deal with exigencies and improve their overall efficiency.

Launched in the Capital on Wednesday, a train simulators that will be used impart training, is a static equipment that simulates the operating environment of the train from the training point of view and also tests the train operator.

Real life environment

This simulation of visual environment, train behaviour, cabin environment helps the operator experience the real life environment.

"It enables imparting training to train operators in a close-to-real situation in controlled environment to achieve knowledge of railway line, driving rules and signalling, driving skills, troubleshooting skills and operation of the train in case of faults," said DMRC officials.

It was further pointed out that use of simulator enables safety issues to be assessed in a safe environment and minimises the use of revenue earning trains for training purposes.

"The simulator will enhance training objectives by focussing on driving techniques for efficiency and quality of train operators, rules and regulation training, signalling technology, route learning, accident and incident training by exposing to unusual or dangerous situations to reduce number of fatal accidents," DMRC officials said.

The simulator will be installed in a "mock cab" that will be equipped with all the controls and the instruments as found in a real cab.

There will be motion, sound and visual stimulants to create a real life like situation for the operators.
