JD(S) ready for local bodies polls: Revanna

Officials directed to stock fertilizers and seeds

HASSAN: The Janata Dal (Secular) is ready for local bodies elections, Minister for Public Works and Energy H.D. Revanna has said.

He told presspersons here on Wednesday that the reservation policy would be decided according to the High Court's advice.

Mr. Revanna directed officers to stock fertilizers and seeds. He said that during his recent visit to Delhi, he had urged Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Ram Vilas Paswan him to release sufficient quantity of fertilizers, pesticides and seeds to Karnataka.

"I have directed the Deputy Commissioner and the Joint Director for Agriculture to calculate the taluk-wise requirement of fertilizers. I have also directed Deputy Director for Horticulture to enlighten farmers on subsidy available for cultivation of horticulture crops," he said.

Mr. Revanna said he had directed sugar factories to purchase cane for a few more days. He said that the Deputy Commissioner and zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer had been authorised to tackle drinking water scarcity. Mr. Revanna said he had directed that trees be planted along the sides of the national and State highways, and also on roads in the district and taluk. A sum of Rs. 50 lakh had been released fore this, he said.

Mr. Revanna said that H.D. Deve Gowda who represents Hassan Lok Sabha constituency had written to the Railways to start a train from Shravanabelagola to Hubli via Hassan and Arsikere that would leave Shravanabelagola at 5 a.m., he said.
