Fake encounter case: charge sheet filed against 9

SRINAGAR: The Special investigation Team (SIT) of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday filed a charge sheet against nine police and Army personnel including a Colonel, Major, former Senior Superintendent of Police, and a Deputy Superintendent of Police for conspiring in the abduction and murder of a civilian from Kokernag in south Kashmir.

The charge sheet was presented by the officers of the SIT in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Sopore.

The investigations conducted by SP (East) Srinagar Anand Jain pointed to the involvement of the former SSP of Ganderbal, H.R. Parihar, his deputy Bahadur Ram and three other policemen along with Col. Vikram Singh, Commanding officer of 13 Rashtriya Rifles, Maj. Navin Yadav and two other soldiers in a conspiracy to first abduct Ghulam Nabi Wani from Kokernag and then murder him in a fake encounter in Ajas in Bandipore district. However, detailed probe and result of DNA tests conducted in February confirmed that it was the body of Wani. Though the Army authorities refused to cooperate with police SIT in investigations the charge sheet was presented with full details and the court according to official sources was convinced.
