Coimbatore: Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, C.K. Gandhirajan has ordered detention of two persons under Goondas Act and under Preventive Detention provisions to prevent breach of public peace and tranquillity.
Rape case
Mr. Gandhirajan has ordered the detention of Sait alias Peer Mohammed (28) of Kuniamuthur under Goondas Act for one year. The police had arrested Peer Mohammed on charges of raping a 14-year-old-girl in the first week of March. The detention orders were served on him at the Coimbatore Central Prison, where he was lodged in judicial custody. He was already on bail granted by the Madras High Court in connection with an attempt to murder case.
Unleashing terror
The Commissioner has also ordered the detention of J. Prabhu (27) of Kurichi under the preventive detention provisions. The Podanur police had arrested him on March 22 on charges of unleashing terror at a ration shop attacking the public and damaging the property. He is also facing a number of criminal cases.
