GRE, GMAT getting bigger

The glitter of a foreign degree had never dulled in India. Despite the emergence of some world-class institutions in this part of the globe, those with deep pockets and brains always aspired to finish off their studies from a big university of repute, in the United States or the United Kingdom, Australia or France. For proof, simply look at the numbers queuing up to take the GRE or the GMAT, tests that could make a big difference during the tough admission process. According to one estimate, after the United States, India has the highest number of GRE test takers. The number of students appearing for the GMAT test has been growing at about 19 per cent. To cater to this growing section of students with their eyes well set beyond the high seas, several coaching centres have opened offices across the country. Bangalore too has its share, the latest being Jamboree.

At Jamboree, which has helped students prepare for the tests for the past 13 years, it is a three-pronged approach — training, admissions and visa. Over 25,000 students had completed their training at different Jamboree centres, the centre authorities told presspersons here on Wednesday.

Agreement

The Nitte Education Trust recently signed an agreement with the U.K.-based University of Bedfordshire, according to which Nitte will offer joint postgraduate programmes in selected areas with the U.K. university. Initially, two programmes, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and an M.Sc in Computer Networking, will be offered. Both these programmes will be of one-year duration, and the first semester classes will be conducted on the Nitte campus in Bangalore. The programme in Bangalore is slated to begin in February 2008, and the first batch of students will go to the U.K. in September 2008.
