A sci-fi from Vinayan

Athisayan

Athisayan written and directed by Vinayan is part science fiction, quite unusual in Malayalam films. But the storyline is all too familiar.

There are four villains who work together as a group - a minister (Rajan P. Dev), an opposition MLA (Ramu), a police commissioner (Bheeman Raghu) and a businessman (Devan), who is the mastermind.

The film has well written dialogues and its moments of hilarity when the villains encounter a little boy who is invisible.

But the final twist to the tale in the climax of the film looks contrived.

Maya (Kavya Madhavan) works as a television reporter. She also takes care of nine orphaned children. Among them is a bright 10-year old boy, Devadas (Master Devadas). Their neighbour is a famous scientist Sekhar (Jackie Shroff). One day he prepares a green drug in his laboratory. Sekhar's experiments show that anyone who consumes this drug will become invisible. The curious Devadas watches everything without Sekhar's knowledge. Maya is in love with journalist Roy (Jayasurya).

He is in jail after the villains framed him in a murder case while trying to expose them.

District Collector Anitha (Karthika) is Maya's friend. She plants a camera at the meeting place of the villains.

The camera films them accepting bribes while striking a corrupt deal.

Maya wants to telecast it but the villains come to know of it. They kidnap her in a bid to get back the recorded film. Devadas drinks the green liquid and becomes invisible. He fights the villains to rescue Maya. The cast includes Mukesh, Thilakan, Indrans, Harisree Asokan, Jagadeesh. Rajaratnam is in charge of the camera.

The lyrics penned by Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma and Vinayan are set to music by Alphons. The film is produced by Gokulam Gopalan.
