THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Acute paediatric cardiac care and the role of technology-driven medicine in congenital heart surgery will be the focal themes of the eighth update on Paediatric Cardiology being organised by the Paediatric Cardiology Division under the Department of Paediatrics, Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram here from Saturday. The two-day event will feature a workshop on Clinical Cardiology and customised discussions on Acute Paediatric Cardiac conditions, the organising committee told a press conference here on Wednesday. Prominent speakers at the workshop include Dr. M.Zulfikar Ahamed, Professor, SAT Hospital, Dr. N. Sudhayakumar from the Medical College, Kottayam and Dr.K.Suresh, Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. As many as 100 postgraduates are expected to participate in the workshop. Health Minister P.K.Sreemathy is scheduled to inaugurate the programme at a function to be held at the Symphony conference hall, Mascot Hotel on Sunday. The Minister will also release the revised edition of the SAT Hospital Treatment Protocol, the first of its kind in the government sector. Director of Medical Education Dr. Meenu Hariharan will release the conference souvenir. A handbook on Paediatric Cardiology Drug Therapy and a people's book on Rheumatic Fever will also be released on the occasion. Dr.M.S.Valiathan, former director, Sri Chithira Tirunal Institute of Medical Science and Technology, will deliver the C.V. Mathew Roy memorial oration on `Technology-driven medicine with congenital heart surgery as a model.'
