LTTE bases destroyed

B. Muralidhar Reddy

COLOMBO: At least three persons, a soldier and two Tigers, were killed in violence in the north and east even as the air force jets pounded two "identified" LTTE gun positions on Thursday.

The Defence Ministry said the first air strike targeted an LTTE mortar position at Palai in south of Muhamalai.

The second targeted a position where anti-air weapons had been located.

It said the targets had been accurately identified through timely ground information received from reliable sources and the air force officials confirmed that both the targets had been destroyed.

The Tigers have not commented on the claim.
