Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial "Politics of immaturity" (April 18). By first claiming that the Babri Masjid would not have been demolished had his family been active in politics in 1992, Rahul Gandhi probably wanted to garner Muslim votes. And he probably angled for the Hindu votes by saying his family was responsible for dividing Pakistan. In both the instances, he failed to create an impression in favour of his party. As for his claim on the Nehru family's contribution to the freedom struggle, someone should tell him that while many families lost their dear ones and property fighting for independence his is the only family that has been enjoying the fruits of freedom for 60 years at the government's expense.
K.V. Satyajayanth,
* * * More than the Emergency and the Bangladesh war, Indira Gandhi and her family will be remembered for eroding democracy and converting India into a family business for power.
N. Devanand,
* * * One must congratulate Rahul on bringing back to politics the importance of taking credit or blame for the actions of politicians. His remarks have reinforced the truth that Pakistan is our enemy. Those intellectuals who are horrified at the truth can lead a candlelight procession to the Wagah border with miserable results.
Anil S. Pathak,
