Basava Jayanti fete today

Darshanapur to inaugurate celebrations

Gulbarga: Basava Jayanti will be celebrated in Gulbarga on Friday.

The district administration, Department of Kannada and Culture, Gulbarga City Corporation, Zilla Veerashaiva Lingayat Naukarara Kalyan Sangha and Basava Jayanti Committee are jointly organising the celebrations that will start from 9 a.m.

Sharanabasappa Appa of Sharanabasaveshwar Dasoha Peetha will unfurl the Basava flag.

Agricultural Marketing and district-in charge Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur will inaugurate the celebrations. Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly N. Dharam Singh, and Mahanta Shivacharya of Sulphal Math will be present.

MLA Chandrashekar Patil Revur will preside. Sri Basavananda Swamiji of Channaiahgiri Managundi will deliver a lecture.

There would be a rendition of vachanas by Jambaladinni sisters.

A procession would be taken out in the city in the evening, a release said.
