VISAKHAPATNAM: A team of officials and staff drawn from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), APSRTC, Regional Transport Authority and District Police has been formed to undertake a pilot study to reduce the growing incidence of accidents in the district. Announcing this at a media conference, at the end of a meeting with officials from the four departments here on Thursday, SP (Rural) J.G. Murali said that the 65-km. stretch between Payakaraopeta and Anakapalle was chosen for the pilot project. The team would identify the accident-prone areas and identify which junctions need improvement, those that need signage boards and signals and also concentrate on unauthorised encroachments. NHAI would take up the task of junction improvements and erection of signage boards and the concerned municipalities or civic bodies would undertake the work of construction of speed breakers on village roads leading to the National Highway.
