Applications for financial help

BELGAUM: The district office D. Devaraj Urs Backward Classes and Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation has invited applications from eligible candidates belonging to backwards classes and minorities for financial assistance under various schemes for 2007-08.

According to official sources here on Thursday, the Government and the corporation had formulated various schemes for the empowerment of socially and economically weaker sections belonging to backward classes and minorities, Muslims, Jains, Christians, Anglo Indians, Buddhists, Sikh and Parsis in the State.

Those between 18 and 60 years whose annual income is not more than 22,000 are eligible to avail the benefits. Eligible candidates can avail financial assistance up to Rs. 1 lakh. Under the Ganga Kalyan scheme, a beneficiary can avail up to Rs. 86,000 as financial assistance and Rs.14,000 as loan for construction of a borewell for irrigation. Small and marginal farmers engaged in community farming on 8 to 15 acres of land will be given up to Rs. 2.53 lakh to create irrigation facilities.

Students of minority communities who want to pursue education in courses such as BDS, BCA, MCA, M.A., M.Sc., D.Ed. (TCH), ITI and other job-oriented diploma courses can avail educational loans at 2 per cent interest.

The Government has formulated schemes under which artisans and skilled workers can avail loans and subsidy. Landless individuals can avail loans at 6 per cent interest to acquire two acres of land for agricultural purposes.
