Staff Reporter

There are enough tankers, claims CM

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced in the Delhi Assembly on Thursday that a Summer Action Plan for distribution of water all over the city would be announced on Friday.

Replying to a question, Ms. Dikshit said the plan was ready with the Delhi Jal Board and would be circulated among the members of the Legislative Assembly in a day's time.

She said along with the plan a booklet with emergency numbers would also be distributed. This would help the elected representatives in procuring water speedily in their areas.

The Chief Minister claimed that there were enough tankers at the disposal of the Delhi Government and they could be called anywhere at short notice.

To another question, Ms. Dikshit said a plan for undertaking de-silting work on the West Delhi trunk sewer had been prepared. For the project, expected to cost Rs.370 crore, she said a foreign consultant had been appointed in July 2006 and the work had since been awarded.

The work would be carried out by a renowned foreign consultant who had been engaged by the Delhi Jal Board, she said. The consultant would plan the project and execute it qualitatively, she assured.

Stating that work on the project would start this coming June, Ms. Dikshit said it was scheduled to be completed by December 2008.

During the day's proceedings in the House, Congress MLA Mukesh Sharma said if the Government had made up its mind to increase the stamp duty then it should also ensure that the compensation for land acquisition to the farmers was paid at the same rate.
