Man, wife held for daughter's murder

NEW DELHI: A 42-year-old man and his wife have been arrested at Sultanpuri here in connection with the murder of his 18-year-old daughter from his first marriage. According to the police, Nandan and Sushila strangled Lalita, chopped the body into several parts and disposed it of in a nearby drain on Monday. Two days later, they filed a missing complaint with the police. During a search, the police found a decomposed head near a drain and went to Lalita's parents for identification. Her parents refused to identify the head, but the victim's real sister identified it. At this, Nandan and Sushila were interrogated and they purportedly confessed to having killed the girl.

According to the police, Lalita did not get along well with her stepmother Sushila. On Monday she had an altercation with Sushila and the couple decided to kill her, the police said.

Man commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A 38-year-old unemployed man allegedly committed suicide at Mayur Vihar here on Thursday. According to the police, Paramjeet Singh was found hanging from the ceiling in his flat in the morning.

Four held for murder

NEW DELHI: Four persons have been arrested by the South Delhi police in connection with the murder of an 18-year-old boy.

According to the police, Zakir Ansari used to work in a small garment unit. He along with Nasiruddin went to Govindpuri over the weekend to meet some common friends. While Zakir was returning to his Sangam Vihar home, he got into a heated argument with four strangers. He was stabbed on the right thigh and later died at All-India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Based of the description provided by Nasiruddin, the police arrested Praveen, Mukesh, Ganesh and Pintoo on Thursday.

Bomb scare

New Delhi: An abandoned tiffin box tonight triggered a bomb scare at the busy Kashmere Gate Metro station here on Thursday. The box was found on a platform in the elevated section of the station after which a bomb disposal squad was rushed to inspect the scene. Security personnel cordoned off the area, but Metro services were not affected because of the scare, official sources said. However, the box was found to be harmless.

Auto-lifter arrested

NEW DELHI: With the arrest of an alleged auto-lifter, the South Delhi police on Thursday claimed to have recovered one car and four motorcycles from him. Acting on a tip-off that the auto-lifter would visit PVR Saket, the police laid a trap at the entry gate of the parking lot there. When a black car without any number plate arrived, the police confronted driver Kunal who could not produce the papers of the vehicle. Later, he allegedly confessed having stolen the car from Kalkaji.

New director for PCRA

NEW DELHI: Ravi Capoor has taken over as the new Executive Director of the Petroleum Conservation Research Association.

Prior to this assignment, he was posted in the Union Ministry for Petroleum and Natural Gas.
