Chintamani (Kolar District): Kolar district second additional sessions court judgment acquitting all the accused in the Kambalapalli Dalit massacre case is itself an atrocity on truth and justice, writer Devanur Mahadev said here on Friday. While the fire lit by "caste" Hindus consumed seven members of a Dalit family at Kambalapalli in Chintamani taluk of Kolar district seven years ago, the verdict had burnt the truth and justice, he said. Mr. Mahadev was flagging off a "padayatra" to Bangalore organised by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) demanding retrial and reinvestigation into the case. Referring to a similar case at Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu, the Dalit writer said that retrial was necessary to get the culprits punished and it would be a lesson for the perpetrators of crimes against weaker sections of society. Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) State convenor N. Venkatesh lauded the CPI(M) for taking up the cause of social justice. Presiding over the inaugural function, MLA G.V. Srirama Reddy clarified that the programme was not aimed at any personal vendetta, but it was for a just cause. Criminals should be punished, he said. CPI(M) State secretary G.N. Nagaraj termed the "padayatra" as a ray of hope at the end of the tunnel in the backdrop of helplessness among the Dalits. Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha president Maruthi Manpade, general secretary G.C. Bayya Reddy and CITU leader Gandhinagar Narayanaswamy spoke. About 50 CPI(M) activists, led by Maruthi Manpade and Narayanaswamy started the jatha to Bangalore. Members of various Dalit organisations are expected to join the "padayatra" en route Bangalore.
