Kochi
In a bid to create a record of sorts, Kochi Mansoor will sing Malayalam film songs, particularly evergreen melodies for 15 hours at the Changampuzha Park at Idappally on Saturday. Mansoor, who is a drawing teacher at an aided-school in Kochi, aims at entering the Guinness Book of World Records by singing for 24 hours. Earlier, Mansoor had sung for 10 hours at a stretch. Mansoor does not posses any formal degree training in music. He has learned the Malayalam songs by rote and can sing them continuously without looking into his notebooks. Mansoor can sing 6,000 songs and often does karaoke singing at the record-setting functions. The singer said he knows details such as the name of the lyrist, music composer and director of the film for which the songs had been composed. He claims to be able to recall the year in which the film was released. Mansoor also tells his audience the names of the actors on whom the song sequences were filmed. Mansoor prefers to sing songs composed between 1961 and 1985. For, he believes these were the golden days of Malayalam film songs. His bid to enter the Guinness Book had begun a year ago and he started off by singing for five hours. He usually sang the songs composed by Vayalar Ramavarma-Devarajan duo. He loves the songs composed by Vayalar and plans to sing them for the observance of the death anniversary of the poet at his house in Vayalar. Music composer M.K. Arjunan will inaugurate the programme. Lyrists R.K. Damodaran and Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma will speak. The music programme will be on from 7.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.
