Parimarjan draws with Kotronias

NEW DELHI: Parimarjan Negi posted an impressive 53-move draw against the fourth-seeded Greek Grandmaster Vassilious Kotronias in the second round of the Sigeman chess tournament at Malmo, Sweden, on Thursday.

On a day Parimarjan's first round victim Swede Jonny Hector stunned defending champion Jan Timman in just 28 moves, the 14-year-old Indian stayed in the four-man leaders' group at 1.5 points.

The results (second round): Parimarjan Negi (1.5) drew with Vassilious Kotronias (Gre, 1.5); Tiger Hillarp Persson (Swe, 1.5) drew with Ivan Cheparinov (Bul, 1.5); Jan Timman (Ned, 1) lost to Jonny Hector (Swe, 1); Emanuel Berg (Swe, 1) bt Emil Hermansson (Swe, 0); Pontus Carlsson (0.5) drew with Erwin L'Ami (Ned, 0.5).
