VIJAYAWADA: A school exclusively for nurturing sports culture among talented youngsters will be launched at CBR Foundation for Sports at Kethanakonda in Krishna district from this academic year, and the first phase of selection to pick up 200 schoolchildren for Classes VI to IX will begin on April 27 and continue up to May 4, according to foundation president C.B.R Prasad.
Best facilities
Speaking to mediapersons at Kethanakonda on Friday, Mr. Prasad said selected children would be given free education along with best facilities at the academy to emerge international sportspersons. "Once selected, we will take care of their needs. Their only object should be to train hard to carve a niche for themselves in the international sports arena," he said. The children would be housed at the CBR Sports Foundation, coming up on a 50-acre site, 30 km from here. Mr. Prasad urged physical education teachers in various mandals and villages to spot the best available talent in their respective schools and bring them to the first phase of selection process. "After the first phase, children will be put to second phase of selection, involving a three-week intensive coaching," he said. Athletic coach Vinayak Prasad said circulars were sent to district sports development officer, district education officer, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, ZPTC and MPTC members and other officials highlighting the purpose of the sports school.
