NEWS WORTHY: The station personnel at work.
DINDIGUL: Pasumai FM 90.4, a community broadcasting service covering a distance of 35 km around Dindigul, was launched recently. The channel aims at providing information to agriculturists, rural artisans, women and schoolchildren. It will also focus on environment issues, labour problems, global development in economy, technologies in agriculture and other fields. The broadcasting commences with `Vagarai Vanam' on inter-religious songs and environment news. Folk songs will be broadcast between 6.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. `Munnilai Thagavalgal' will present important news at the local, national and international levels. A special daily programme, `Oorkolam Povoma,' will carry information on commerce and industry, banking and finance, reserve bank bulletins, exchange rates, success stories of rural artisans and farmers and leadership features. `Vanakkam Dindigul' a news bulletin at 8 a.m. will cover local news, taluk news, development news, NGO activities, vegetable prices at farmers' market, organic farming and foreign direct investment in the State.
Other language songs
Besides Tamil songs, popular Punjabi, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada numbers will be aired during `Sokkum Akkam Pakkam' programme at 9.30 a.m. Tamil songs will be broadcast between all programmes. According to J. Paul Baskar, Founder-Director of Pasumai FM, "The broadcasting was originally between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. We have planned to expand it till 8 p.m. shortly. We have planned to include news on human rights, education guidance, launch of new products, cooking and medical tips, book reviews, lectures on self-confidence, sports and debates in the days to come."
