KARAIKAL: Karaikal Struggle Group, a forum, which has been urging the Centre to accord separate union territory status for Karaikal region in the Union Territory of Puducherry has criticised the Puducherry Government for neglecting the region and its failure to give due representation to the region in the nomination of three members to the State legislative Assembly. S.P. Selvashanmugham, advocate and convenor of the KSG, said here on Friday that the Puducherry Government had been neglecting the Karaikal region for the last five decades in sharing of power and in implementing welfare schemes. Mr. Selvashanmugham said that the Puducherry Government had forwarded three names to the Centre to nominate them as members of Puducherry Legislative Assembly and none of them was nominated from Karaikal region that has a population of nearly two lakh, the second largest among the four enclaves in the Union Territory of Puducherry with six MLAs from the region.
