KARIMNAGAR. Government Whip D. Sridhar Babu has appealed to all sections of society in Karimnagar to participate in the bandh on Saturday, a call given by the PCC to lodge the protest against the illegal construction Babli project and adamant statements made by Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he called for solidarity with the State Government demanding stoppage of illegal Babli project, which was detrimental to the interests of north Telangana region. He also appealed to all the political parties leaders of the district to fight against the illegal project.

Reiterating that the State Government had approached court and was pressuring the Union Government in the matter, he flayed the Maharashtra Government for not stopping the works in spite of written instructions by the Union Water Resources Minister.

Visit postponed

In the wake of PCC call to observe bandh in five north Telangana districts on Saturday in protest against the Babli project, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy had cancelled his official Praja Patham programme in Karimnagar district.

Official sources said that the Chief Minister was scheduled to participate in Praja Patham programmes in Ilapur of Korutla mandal, Chittapur and Dharmaram villages of Mallapur mandals. In the wake of bandh call, the Chief Minister's official programmes were postponed.

Congress draws flak

Hyderabad Special Correspondent writes: Telugu Desam Legislature Party Secretary E. Dayakar Rao on Friday ridiculed the PCC president K. Keshav Rao's call for a bandh in five districts of Telangana to protest against Babli barrage.

At a press conference here, he said it was strange that a ruling party calls for a bandh and cause inconvenience to people instead of putting all its efforts to stop Maharashtra Government from going ahead with Babli.
