Haryana Tourism to capitalise on Games: Minister

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Haryana Tourism and Forests Minister Kiran Chaudhary on Friday said the State would take full advantage of the Commonwealth Games being held in Delhi and work towards capitalising on the situation by developing major tourist destinations and activities like a golf course on the periphery of the Capital.

Speaking at the four-day annual Soth Asia Travel and Tourism Exhibition conference here at Pragati Maidan, Ms. Chaudhary said the 2010 Commonwealth Games had thrown up a great challenge to Haryana and the State Government was working towards fulfilling the objective of getting the maximum out of this event.

She said for the first time the private sector had joined hands with Haryana Tourism to project the State as a major destination for domestic and international tourists. The focus will be on highway tourism, golf courses and developing water bodies around Delhi in collaboration.

Ms. Chaudhary said it had been decided to undertake aggressive marketing of the State to market destinations like Surajkund, Kurukshetra, Pinjore, Morni Hills and the motels along National Highway 1 and 2.

Partnership

She said she was hopeful that this effort would be succeed in promoting public-private partnership.

This would go a long way in putting Haryana on the tourist map. "Haryana has been a pioneer in highway tourism and now it is slowing emerging as major destination in golf tourism and farm tourism with a total of 14 golf courses," she said, adding that Haryana was now planning to use tourism as a mechanism to empower women and very soon a project would be submitted to the Women and Child Department for implementation.
