DANGER SIGNS: These cables on Tarnaka road pose a grave threat to motorists. PHOTO: K. RAMESH BABU
HYDERABAD: After the deadly curve, dangling wires strung on streetlights on the stretch from Mettuguda junction to Railway Golf Club near Tarnaka are now posing threat to road users. The cable operators and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have not removed these wires even after Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M. Punna Rao warned them of legal action. They also turned a deaf ear to the warning issued by the municipal authorities.
Narrow escape
Many motorists meet with accidents while going towards Tarnaka. On Friday, two persons had a miraculous escape when their motorcycles got tangled with the cable wires hanging on the main road. Narrow road, defunct streetlights and lack of signboards on this road, which connects several intersections, including Vijayawada highway, are already posing danger to motorists. Nothing concrete has been done to improve safety on this stretch despite it being declared one of the top 10 accident-prone areas in the twin cities. Not to forget, the steep curve between Allugadda Bavi and Mettuguda had turned out to be a death trap with several accidents being reported. "We are now facing a new problem with these wires. Who will take responsibility if we meet with an accident?" an autorickshaw driver W. John, who resides in the locality, asked. Add to it the indiscriminate digging of road for laying water pipelines and the traffic congestion worsens, he added.
Another `drive'
Additional Commissioner of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (Secunderabad) B. Ramesh Babu said a drive would be launched within a couple of days to remove the cable wires without notifying the operators and ISPs.
