Army men to be helped in finding civilian jobs

Staff Reporter

Directorate-General Resettlement's initiative for retiring personnel

HYDERABAD: Here is something to cheer about for hundreds of army men and their families who shudder at the thought of retirement and living on a meagre pension.

The Directorate-General Resettlement (DGR) under Ministry of Defence, in-charge of resettlement and welfare of ex-servicemen would help about 30,000 ex-servicemen this year in finding jobs in civilian life that suit them.

The Director General, Resettlement, Harwant Krishna who interacted with a group of army personnel at Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (EME) centre, Secunderabad on Friday informed that between January and February, already 7,800 ex-servicemen have been placed.

The message was loud and clear. Instead of opting to go back to villages, the retiring and retired personnel of the armed forces should think of giving a new impetus to their career by taking up jobs at corporate and industry level.

"Annually, 60,000 personnel retire from armed services. About 25 lakh ex-servicemen are registered with DGR out of which widows' population is over 4.2 lakh. So this is a great challenge for us to keep looking for jobs in private companies for our personnel," Mr. Krishan informed.

Officials also informed that recently the DGR has introduced six-months' certificate course for officers at IIMs and XLRI, Jamshedpur to help personnel from armed services achieve success in private sector.
