The historic Jama Masjid in Delhi.
NEW DELHI: The Central Zone Deputy Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and nodal officer of the Rs. 250-crore project prepared for re-development of the historic Jama Masjid and its surrounding areas here as an international tourist site informed the Delhi High Court on Friday that a tender would be floated for the purpose by June-end this year. Nodal officer Vijay Singh submitted that preparation of the project was in the final stages and it would soon be submitted to the Delhi Urban Arts Commission for approval. Meanwhile, three high-resolution closed-circuit cameras have been installed around the historic monument to check encroachments around it, the nodal officer submitted before a Division Bench comprising Justice M. K. Sharma and Justice Rekha Sharma. The Bench asked him to file a status report on August 17, the next date of hearing. The High Court had last June approved the project prepared by architect Pradeep Saxena and directed the MCD to implement it within18 months. The Court had also said that the Deputy Commissioner would not be transferred before implementation of the project. It had asked the Deputy Commissioner and the Court Commissioner of the Zone, advocate Kirti Uppal, to submit to the Court a monthly report about the progress of implementation of the project. The Bench had also suggested to the local body to implement the project under public-private partnership.
